Fitted Wardrobes in Saltaire

Saltaire is ten minutes from the workshop, and one of the most interesting places we fit. The whole village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the stone-built workers' terraces, the streets named after Sir Titus Salt's family, Salts Mill at the heart of it. World Heritage status protects the external appearance of every Saltaire house. Internal works — which is what fitted wardrobes are — are unaffected. We have fitted wardrobes in dozens of Saltaire homes. The Saltaire wardrobe brief is the period-property brief: tight Victorian bedrooms, original sash windows with their stone reveals, picture rails and period skirting we scribe the cabinetry around. Hinged alcove wardrobes are the most common solution. Smoked oak or hand-painted shaker fronts read appropriately against the stone window reveals. Brushed brass cup pulls are a Saltaire default. The owners we work with tend to know the village well — they have asked about conservation, planning, what they can and cannot do — and the answer for internal cabinetry is simple. We measure on site, build in our West Yorkshire workshop, and fit with our own joiners. Three weeks from quote to fitted. Two to four days on site for a standard alcove pair, longer if there is original cornice to scribe around.
