Fitted Wardrobes in Saltaire
Fitted wardrobes for Saltaire's UNESCO World Heritage homes — designed to respect the period detail, built in our West Yorkshire workshop.
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Saltaire is ten minutes from the workshop, and one of the most interesting places we fit. The whole village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the stone-built workers' terraces, the streets named after Sir Titus Salt's family, Salts Mill at the heart of it. World Heritage status protects the external appearance of every Saltaire house. Internal works — which is what fitted wardrobes are — are unaffected. We have fitted wardrobes in dozens of Saltaire homes. The Saltaire wardrobe brief is the period-property brief: tight Victorian bedrooms, original sash windows with their stone reveals, picture rails and period skirting we scribe the cabinetry around. Hinged alcove wardrobes are the most common solution. Smoked oak or hand-painted shaker fronts read appropriately against the stone window reveals. Brushed brass cup pulls are a Saltaire default. The owners we work with tend to know the village well — they have asked about conservation, planning, what they can and cannot do — and the answer for internal cabinetry is simple. We measure on site, build in our West Yorkshire workshop, and fit with our own joiners. Three weeks from quote to fitted. Two to four days on site for a standard alcove pair, longer if there is original cornice to scribe around.
Typical brief in this area — Internal works only — conservation does not restrict fitted wardrobes. Tight Victorian bedrooms, original sash windows, period detail to preserve.

Fitted wardrobes around our chimney breast — walnut alcove pair with brushed brass cup pulls, scribed to the original picture rail. The designer measured for an hour at the kitchen table and the price did not move after that. Three weeks from quote to fitted.
- Mike H.
Sliding wardrobe along the back wall, smoked oak fronts, brushed brass recessed pulls. The team scribed the end panels to the original walls — no filler strips. Three days on site, no mess at the end of each day.
- Joanne L.
We compared three quotes; this team was the most honest about timings and pricing. The fitters were the same team that measured the room — no subcontracted joiners on the day. Brushed brass, walnut throughout, ten-year warranty in writing.
On fitted wardrobes in Saltaire.
Saltaire is a World Heritage Site — can you still fit wardrobes here?
Yes. Saltaire's UNESCO status protects the external appearance of the village. Internal works, including fitted wardrobes, are unaffected. We have fitted wardrobes in dozens of Saltaire homes.
How do you handle Saltaire's tight Victorian bedrooms and original sash windows?
We measure the room as it stands, including the original stone window reveal, and design the cabinetry to scribe cleanly around every existing element. Hinged alcove wardrobes are the most common solution; smoked oak and hand-painted shaker read well against the stone.
Do you cover the streets named after Sir Titus Salt's family?
Yes — Albert, Caroline, Edward, Ada, Mary, Helen, Constance Roads, plus George Street and the wider village. The workshop is ten minutes away.
