HOW WE COMPARE

The honest difference between us and the national chains.

Sharps, Hammonds, and Neville Johnson make good wardrobes — we won't say otherwise. The difference is operational. They run regional showrooms and a national fitting network. We run a Bradford workshop and our own joiners. That difference shows up in the price, the lead time, and who picks up the phone.

THE BRADFORD WEDGE

Built for Bradford homes

Bradford's housing stock is a problem most national wardrobe companies solve with filler panels. The chimney-breast alcoves running through Frizinghall and Manningham terraces. The sloped ceilings and knee walls in Heaton loft conversions. The tight box rooms in Wibsey 1930s semis. The stone-built Saltaire homes that need wardrobes to follow the original architecture, not fight it.

We've built wardrobes for nearly every kind of Bradford bedroom — and over 25 years we've stopped finding them difficult. They're what we do.

Whether your house is a Victorian terrace, a 1930s semi, a stone-built period home in Ilkley or Baildon, a new-build in Apperley Bridge, or a mill conversion in Shipley — we measure on site, build in our West Yorkshire workshop, and fit in your home with our own joiners. Fixed quote on the day. Ten-year warranty. No subcontractors.

Built around our chimney breast in the principal bedroom — walnut alcove pair with brushed brass cup pulls, scribed to the original picture rail. Three weeks from the design visit to fitted. We had quotes from Sharps and a local joiner; this firm came in lower than Sharps and the install was tidier.

Sliding wardrobe along the back wall of a Victorian terrace. The fitters knew the house type and what to do about the out-of-true walls — no filler panels, scribed properly. Brushed brass recessed pulls, smoked oak fronts. Four days on site.

  • James W. Frizinghall · BD9 · 4 months ago

Floor-to-ceiling alcove pair in our four-storey end-of-terrace. Walnut veneer, scribed around the cornice and skirting. Designer measured for an hour and gave us a fixed price on the day. The price did not move when we made small changes during the build.

  • Rachel T. Wibsey · BD6 · 5 months ago

Hinged wardrobes either side of the bay window in our 1930s semi, plus a small bench seat under the bay. Painted shaker in a soft sage with brushed brass cup handles. The room finally works.

  • Helen K. Saltaire · BD18 · 6 months ago

We were nervous about the conservation rules — they reassured us that fitted wardrobes are internal works and unaffected. Walnut alcove pair around the original chimney breast, picture rail intact, original sash window untouched. Three days on site.

Heritage tier — full dressing room behind the master bedroom. Walnut on three walls, smoked oak island with a quartz top, full mirror with LED surround. Six weeks of workshop time, eight days on site. We compared three quotes; this team understood what Wharfedale houses want and the price was honest.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Answers to what customers ask first.

How much do fitted wardrobes cost in Bradford?

Our entry tier starts at £1,995 for a standard fitted wardrobe — typically an alcove pair or single run in a painted finish. A wall-to-wall run with internal fit-out sits in our Signature tier from £3,995. Walk-in wardrobes and dressing rooms start at £7,995. The number we quote at your design visit is the number you pay.

How long does it take from quote to fitted?

A free design visit within a week of your enquiry. Fitted within three to four weeks of order. Wardrobes have a fabrication step — we build in our West Yorkshire workshop while you carry on with your week, then fit on site in two to five days depending on the run.

Do you use subcontractors?

No. Our own joiners fit every wardrobe we sell — the same people we trained. The national chains route work through subcontracted fitters who change job to job; that is the single biggest reason their installs sometimes disappoint.

Do you fit wardrobes around chimney-breast alcoves?

Constantly. Frizinghall, Manningham, Heaton — most Bradford Victorian terraces have alcoves either side of a chimney breast and they are exactly what fitted wardrobes are for. We scribe the end panels to whatever the original walls, skirting, and picture rails are doing.

Can you fit wardrobes under sloped ceilings?

Yes — sloped ceilings, knee walls, dormer extensions, eaves dead space. We build wardrobes that follow the slope rather than fitting a square cabinet and filling the gap with panels. The Heaton loft conversions and the Saltaire roof-rooms are where this work lives.

Are fitted wardrobes worth the cost compared with freestanding?

For most Bradford bedrooms, yes — because the alcove, the bay, or the sloped ceiling means a freestanding wardrobe wastes 20% of the floor and 30% of the wall height. Fitted means every centimetre is used, scribed to the architecture, and the wardrobe leaves with the house when you sell.

Sliding doors or hinged — which works better?

Hinged gives you the full view of the wardrobe interior, so the internal fit-out can be simpler. Sliding suits narrow rooms, wall-to-wall runs, and any layout where door swing would eat the floor. We talk you through which suits your room at the design visit.

What does the 10-year warranty cover?

Cabinetry construction and hardware — hinges, runners, soft-close mechanisms. Wear-and-tear and accidental damage are not covered. The warranty travels with the property, so a future owner inherits it.

Do I need to be home for the design visit?

Yes — the design visit happens in the room the wardrobe goes in, with the wall in front of us. We measure, talk through how you use the space, bring samples, and give you a fixed price before we leave. Roughly an hour.
